FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS / ANSWERS

Below you can find a list of frequently asked questions by our customers

1. Is it better to use internal or external thermal insulation?

It is better to use external thermal insulation, because this way we use the heat capacity of the building elements to our advantage and we protect more effectively the cover of the building from bad weather conditions.

2. 2. How much more energy can be saved if I use external thermal insulation based on Styrofoam instead of double masonry?

About 30%, because we avoid the heat channels created between the walls.

3. How much energy can be saved if I use external thermal insulation on a building with no previous insulation?

At least 60%, depending on the thickness of the insulating material and the climate zone to which the building belongs. More details on the website of the Ministry of Development (www.ypan.gr)

4. Is it necessary to use the starting guide so that the thermal insulation plates are firmly adjusted to the ground?

It is not necessary for the mechanical support of the system but it does help to build up the boards correctly.

5. At which height should be placed the support guide?

The support guide is not necessary for our system. If you want to use it, though, place it 40 centimeters away from the leveling of ground.

6. At which depth should I apply the gluing mortar FL 100 ST THERMOCOL between the wall and the thermal insulation plate? What should I do in case my wall is too oblique?

The maximum depth for the gluing mortar should be 1 centimeter, as it is the case for most glues. If you want to use the external thermal insulation system BIO PANOPLY, first you need to flatten the substrate by using some kind of plaster, such as our plaster GS 100 or you should proceed to flattening with polystyrene of different thickness, something that is not recommended due to increased level of difficulty.

7. Should I place anchors at the corners of the building?

It is considered to be necessary, since it is possible that increased wind load at the corners of the building could lead to the detachment of the plates.

8. How should I place the anchors correctly?

We open a 2-cm-deep hole in the polystyrene using a special metal router (drilling machine part). Then, we push the anchor with our hand or a hammer and hit the pin just once. In the end, we close the 2cm-deep hole using polystyrene caps (washers).

9. Which should be the anchorage depth in the substrate where the thermal insulation is applied?

About 5-6cm inside the substrate.

10. Should I put a first coat before applying the final plaster layer “BIOPLASTER”?

- It is recommended to use the primer “BIOPRIMER” under the final plaster layer “BIOPLASTER”, since it is specialized for this particular plaster and is available in 8 colors. BIOPRIMER is ideal for fastening the substrate and ensuring the optimal cover of the final color. If the substrate is non absorbent and very leveled (gypsum-board, etc), it is recommended to use the special primer MARMOCONTACT.
- When you use BIOPLASTER as the final layer for the thermal insulation system BIOPANOPLY, you don’t have to put a first coat on the surface of the gluing mortar FL 100 ST THERMOCOL, as long as it is fresh and free from dust and fat.
